Shoot me now..........(comics spoilers)
Sep. 29th, 2004 03:57 pmI don't even know why I buy comics anymore. Everytime I get involved in one, the writer does something that pisses me off to no end.
In the last issue of Runaways, which is the final before the hiatus, Captain American finds the kids after they have defeated their parents and the team traitor. Okay, so Cap has just discovered a team of newly orphaned teens, all with superpowers. What does he do? Turns them all over to foster care and splits them up. They don't see each other for months until Chase reunites them and they all decide to strike out on their own again. What I want to know is: what happened to the civic responsibility of superheroes? time was, a hero came across orphaned super-teens, he would make them his teen sidekicks. It's definitely better than sticking Nico in "Father Flannegan's home for unwanted Goth kids". Stupid Marvel.
But that pales in comparison to what happened today. The latest issue of Superman/Batman came out(after a 3 month delay-stupid artist), and what did they do with Supergirl, who us die-hard fans have been waiting 15 years to have back? Darkseid kills her. Blasts her into atoms with his Omega beams. I don't know what they hope to accomplish with a cliff-hanger like this, making us think she's dead. It's just going to alienate the fans. That is, assuming it IS a fakeout. The alternative, that they brought Kara back just to kill her again, is too horrible to imagine. Stupid DC.
So why do I buy comics again? Oh, yeah, because I'm essentially an abused spouse. They smack me around all they want and I keep on coming back for more, because "Maybe it'll get better".
All I know is, thank god I have my RPG so I can pretend all these things never happened.
